Valentines done right
Society often tells us that to be happy in a relationship, you need to have the funds to back it up. Frankly, this is just so untrue. With the valentine’s season starting and the big day being on a Friday, you are probably wanting to spoil your loved one(s). Of course, this is okay to do, if not warranted. However, going into to debt to do so, is not. Today, lets take a dive into ways you can show your partner that mean tons to you, without breaking the bank.
Including myself, I love to spoil my wife, and I am sure you love to spoil your loved one, too. Whether it be a night out or a thoughtful gift like a piece of jewelry, we all have our taste, or maybe it is both. For us this year, we got a new puppy for ourselves. Gifts do not always need to be traditional, and they do not need to cost a fortune either. We had been looking for a bit and we used our savings for the puppy, to make the purchase. When you have money set aside for fun and bigger purchases like that, it makes the gift that much more enjoyable without the stress of how you are going to be paying off the next big purchase. The overall message is big purchases are okay, but doing so smartly and methodically, is the way to go.
Leading with my last point, DO NOT SPEND MONEY YOU DO NOT HAVE. In today’s world with Klarna or affirm, it makes it easier to feel like you can afford something. If you are even the tiniest bit tapped in with the financial world, I am sure you have heard the name Dave Ramsey. As he likes to say, “cash is king”, and “if you cannot pay cash, you cannot afford it”. Now with some exceptions like a mortgage or a home, this does not exclude financing your lover’s new piece of Jewelry. Use cash or forget it and find something else.
Now you may be saying “well Isaac, I am following your ideas here, but I still really want to buy that ring for my loved one”. I get that satisfying your partner with what they want is important, so even though you may not be able to afford the diamond ring, why not get the lab created diamond ring that is $200.00 cheaper? You can still spend money on your partner, do not get that twisted. What I want you to do is be mindful and smart, while remaining thoughtful for your partner. That way, it is a win-win for both parties involved in the giving, and the receiving.
Today we have talked about a few ways you can save money when it comes to the Valentines season. They may seem repetitive, but so is finances. You WILL NOT see financial change without CHANGE, and it starts with your action. Let’s do this Valentines season different this year, starting with shopping smart. CCDR is here for you all the way, and we recommend speaking to an agent here, if your debt pile has become too much to handle.
